Dance! - w/Joni Lanza
Dates: March 4, 11, 18, 25, April 1, 8, 29, May 5
10th Period; Grades 6-8; Fee: $95; ~This is a Ballet, Tap, and Jazz combo class. We will be exploring and contrasting these different forms of dance to familiarize the students with the terminology, musicality, and movement for all three disciplines. Ballet and Tap Shoes strongly recommended, but not required. Students can participate in sneakers if necessary. The purpose of this class is to help the children learn the joy and positive energy that dance movement can bring to their lives!
Joni attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and began her performance career in Radio City Music Hall’s “Christmas Spectacular”. She understudied Lola in Barry Manilow’s National Tour of “Copacabana”. She went on to make her Broadway debut in the revival of the tap show “42nd Street” and went on for the lead role of Peggy Sawyer many times. She then went on to perform in the Tony Award winning, “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, starring Sutton Foster. Joni had the honor of playing Dolly in the “Hello Again Dolly” Parade at the Garrison Landing last summer with Tommy Tune. Joni grew up teaching classes at her family’s dance studio, and continued to teach when she moved to NYC. She currently teaches at The Dance Conservatory, and will be subbing for her mentor Charles Goddertz at STEPS on Broadway. It is a dream come true for her to be of service to our children by sharing her knowledge and passion for dance and performing!
